My wife Helen, who I called "Pumpkin" passed away Saturday morning Oct 1, 2011. She gave up her two year battle with lung cancer after a very hard fight. She Never complained and always had such a polite and pleasent attitude. She was a true angel and took after her mother with her very mellow attitude. Even after all her treatments, she never seemed to age and still looked as good as she did when I married her in 1975. We were about to celebrate our 34 Wedding Annivesary on Oct 9th.
On our first date we went to see "The Towering Inferno". I told her that I was on the list to be a firefighter (fireman as they were called then). I don't think she was too impressed as she had just broken up with some high paying engineer guy.
Our second date I had forgot to bring tickets with me for a show, so I had to go home to get them. We were going to see a singing group called "Jay and the Americans". I asked Pumpkin to come inside while I got the tickets. It was a cold night.  She talked with my mother for about ten minutes and we left. When I got home, my mother said to me "that's the girl you need to marry". My mother sure was right.
Pumpkins funeral will be on Wednesday. I'm sure gonna miss her. I was so Blessed to have her for those 34 years.  She sure was a "charm". We sure loved each other. I can only hope that someday, Pumpkin and I will be together again.
  Thank you.

Grumpy has my utmost sympathies to your family. My first date with my wife was also the "Towering Inferno". I was attending Bunker Hill CC working on a Fire Associates degree. She was diagnosed with breast cancer right after our engagement, but I am old school. I loved her then and I loved her after she died. I guess God needs some top-flight people to help run stuff. I am sure your wife and Linda Munzing (Poore) are watching over the bravest of the brave. Again my sympathies to all concerned, sometimes life does not seem fair.
