L51 & E38 responded alone, L51 reported they had a tanker fire & were setting up the bucket to assist Mt Vernon/Pelham, BC15 was then assigned. L51 reported it had extended to a building, E38 putting its multi versal in use. BC15 on his arrival requested an all hands response. Fire extended to a gas station, convenience store and a 3rd commercial building in the rear.

Thanks to "Truck 4" I was able to take this in. I was staying at the Ramada near Co-Op City for the night as the Member Meeting was taking place the next day. When "T-4" called me about 2 AM and said there was an explosion with numerous phone calls in Mt Vernon, I really had no idea where this could be. So I listened on the scanner.
I had heard FDNY Eng 38, Lad 51 and Batt 15 going in on this. Then I heard Lad 51 putting their bucket to work. Next Batt 15 transmitted the 10-75, and that was when I heard how close it really was from my motel. The Bronx C.O was giving directions to the additional Bronx Cos responding in. "Get off the New England Thruway at Conners St, onto Boston Rd and over the bridge". Turns out it was almost right out side my door. I followed Squad 61 in as they were responding. I could have walked to it.
A great job to take in. Plenty of mutual aid. The FDNY ended up transmitting a 10-86 bringing in plenty of special units, including many FDNY/EMS Units.
For me, it was a Great way to start off the annual Member Meeting. I just hope nobody got hurt.
And if it wasn't for "Truck 4" giving me the "Heads Up", I would have been pretty disappointed had I heard what happened two miles or so right outside my door.
  Thanks "Truck 4".
