Its official, there is a group trying to reopen the company. When & Why, I can not answer. The local community board many years ago had asked for  anew fire station to be built between the Classon Point - Castle Hill communities (96 & 64 first due areas) with new Engine & Truck Companies. A survey was done by Columbia College after the request was made public. The results of the report was interesting - "Even with this new fire station, Bronx Community Board # 9 would still be below average fire protection provided by NYC."   The site selected was in the area of White Plains Rd & Lacombe Ave.  This is an area that has seen an increase of population over the years. But the money source of the old vol dept is gone & that was the two beach clubs, Shore Haven & Castle Hill. Aviation 3 did serve the remote community of Classion Point for many of years responding from Patterson Ave to the East River, but also to nearby schools out side their 'first due boxes'.  I say no more!

I just watched a story on news about 2-members from this group that were detained while responding by NYPD. The FDNY nor Mayors Office recognize Aviation as a VFD in City of NY.

The 'chief' of Aviation responded to an MVA on the Bruckner and was told to leave by PD.

Lets hope it is just a rumor.
  Explain why????? ???

This explains why.

The volunteers are “operating without the proper training, equipment and authorizations” and are endangering the public and city firefighters, Cassano added.

'Chief' Romeo Toro was a member of the Valhalla Volunteer Fire Department in Westchester County in 2008. He was suspected of stealing equipment and applied to a volunteer department in Long Island. The Westchester COunty Police arrested him and he took a plea of 3 years probation on a misdemeanor charge in 2009.

There was a community board meeting that the 3rd batt was attending. They had a file with complaints from surrounding companies. Some were poor rig placement, responding way out of their response area and beligerant and disrespectfull behavior towards members and officers of all ranks of the fdny.

The engine they are operating was recently purchased from a PA vendor.  It was traded by a company in my department that recently placed a new rig in service. It is a 1989 ALF

New York City fire protection is bravely provided by the FDNY. No other assistance is needed from any other organization or group.  If a civilian wants to help hump some hose into the lobby for a top floor  6 story H type fire so be it. your help is appreciated since our Door Man has now been removed from all of our engine companies.  Volunteers provide a admirable service to communities that do not have paid fire protection. In nyc this is not the case so thanks but no thanks.

These clowns, along with the Bronx Volunteer Fire Patrol, should be locked up for interfering.  There are many ways to volunteer and help your community.  In the Bronx, there is no place for a volunteer fire service (EPVFD no withstanding).  We operate as one big unit and this gang doesn't play by our rules.  Have you looked at a map, they're plenty close to 96&54, along with a short drive to 64&47.

Let Cassano send them a formal letter to cease response operations and then lock them up next time they buff a run.
