Sadness on passing of FDNY friend

It is with deep sadness that I advise of the passing of Marilyn Bernard, FDNY Director, Special Events and Projects early 1980's - 1995. Marilyn suffered from cancer for the last 4 years and left our world this afternoon. Services Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 11:30 AM, Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Ave (at 92 St.), Manhattan. There will also be a memorial service Thursday, Jan. 12 evening - location and time will follow. Most old timers will remember Marilyn for her great love of the department and its members and for her role in the development of the FDNY Fire Museum.

 It was a honor to have known her & to have worked with her on different projects.  She in deep had a love for FDNY. She will be missed. RIP

Marilyn was an old friend of the Fire Museum and was a prime mover in getting it off the ground. Marilyn’s niece, Lisa Gornick, will be holding a small gathering in her honor at the New York City Fire Museum’s third-floor space on Thursday night from 7 pm to 10 pm. There will be refreshments and those wishing to share their stories of Marilyn are encouraged to do so. All friends of Marilyn and the family are invited.

I like many, have visited the FDNY Fire Musuem. Marilyn will be remembered by many for her efferts in forming the FDNY Fire Musuem and making it the success it is today.
