Marine 5, spare boat, is berthed at the Bklyn Navy Yard with Marine 6.

Since the unit was used for the recent water rescue, does that mean that Marine 6 can use the boat numbered Marine 5, instead of using the Kevin Kane?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess that Marine 5 used to be Marine 6 Alpha.

Marine 6, since operating with the "Kane," has not utilized an Alpha boat.

Marine Operations maintains two 25-foot Privateers and one 25-foot Boston Whaler that can be activated as Marine Companies for special events as was done on July 4.

Good thing Marine 5 was deployed ...rescues 7 people

Obviously Marine 5 was activated for this operation.  I  know it's stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard with Marine 6.

Question:  What type of boat is Marine 5?   Is it really fast?

Question:  Does Marine 6  have the discretion to activate and use it to get somewhere fast?

Thanks

My post of July 20 pointed out that Marine 6 has not utilized an alpha boat.  That will change on August 4 when Marine 6 Alpha will be activated for a scheduled four-hour exercise in the outer harbor.
