Yonkers, NY Preliminary Budget Cuts
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:05:44 PM »
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced his budget today which included laying off 30 cops and demoting 7 supervisors. The Fire Department would lose 26 firefighters with 10 demotions. City residents would pay a tax increase of 3.72 %.

The negotiations now begin between the unions and the Mayor for givebacks to prevent these cuts. Also at this point, there is no plan for any contract talks. Most contracts have now been expired for three years.
