I know of another recent case where a retired Fire Captain from Waterbury, Ct started recently as a"Probie" in West Hartford, Ct.

Word is that he also has a son on the job in another Connecticut Dept. When dad comes home, the son says: "How was your day Probie".

But apparently the sad part of this story is that maybe some of the younger generation needs to get their act a little more together. When a 50 or so year old guy can beat out some 22 or 24 year olds, it doesn't say too much for the younger candidates.

My probie school had a 52 y/o probie, he was a 30 year USN vet (helicopter pilot). He did very well and hung in with all of us. Sadly, he died of cancer about 5 years later
When you get promoted, it doesn't make your subordinates dumber
