Thanks Chief. Those PBS Doo Wop Shows are great. I usually buy the DVD when it comes out as well.

I don't think my neighbors are too happy about that though. I usually try to hit a few high notes and the dogs start to howl.

Is that the racket I hear down here in Manhattan whenever those shows are on???  I always complain to the cops and the environmental people but they can never find the source.  Have pity on us, Bill; have pity.

Sad to report that Nokie Edwards, one of the founding members and lead guitarist for the Ventures passed away on March 12th at the age of 82. "Walk, Don't Run," Perfidia," Hawaii Five-0," "Walk-Don't Run '64" and so many other singles and LP's.

Also sadly, Jimmy Wisner, song writer, producer and pianist died March 13th at the age of 86. If the name is not familiar to you look up a song titled "Asia Minor" by Kokomo and listen. It will come right to you.

Rest in peace gentlemen and thanks for the music and the memories.

Following the 1950s GREAT DOO WOP Music, the 1960s brought in more great music.

One such group was know as "The Supremes". A Girl group of singers that led the charts with such songs as; "Baby Love", "Come See About Me", "You Can't Hurry Love", "Where Did Our Love Go".

But in 1970, the lead singer, Diana Ross departed from the Supremes and went on her own.

Later in 1988, "The Supremes" were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Today, that lead singer, Diana Ross just turned 74 years old on March 26th and she is still out there singing some of those hits. She has five children and five grandchildren. Recently this was her singing at one of those shows. In this video she tells how she has been blessed and how she enjoys singing. She tells how most of her family works as care givers, doctors, nurses, ministers.

Now with the winter of 2017/2018 behind us, and warmer days and sunshine ahead, this once famous Doo Wop song may bring back some very special memories for you.

Maybe some of you remember this one. I think it was sung by a group out of Brooklyn, N.Y., way back in 1962.

We dedicate this Doo Wop tune to the FDNY Members of:
  Engine 245/Ladder 161/Battalion 43
  Engine 318/Ladder 166

 It's called; "Coney Island Baby"

Strange as it may seem, John Kuse and the Excellents were from the Bronx. John was 16 years old when he recorded that song. He later went on to be a stock broker on Wall street but never lost his love of doo-wop. By the way, the "B" side was "You, Baby You." Thanks for the videos sir!

How I wish that music was prevalent again today and it was played on radio stations where the jocks had a personality of their own and just not "voice tracked." Great article, thanks Chief.

For all of you doo-wop fans who enjoy reading may I recommend a book that I am currently reading called "The Mystics, The Music, And The Mob" written by an original member of the Mystics, Al Contrera. (If you're from Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, etc. there are many places mentioned), I digress, The book is very interesting and gives a lot of info on other people, groups and songs of our day. If you have a Kindle it's only $3.99. Makes good reading. Take care, be safe and talk to you soon.

REST IN PEACE DAN...I certainly loved WABC on AM radio... my radio always remained tuned to it both in my vehicle & home.....years later my favorite was WCBS 101.1 on FM.... i listened to it night & day when it was still a Doo Wop station with some greats like Dan & others....sometime in the 2000s it changed overnight & although i still have it on in my vehicle it is totally different & sometime it plays real crap...at home my Alexa system plays some good Oldies from the Pandora app but it is a continuous loop that after a couple of hours gets old....the Oldies TV channel on my cable is OK as it does show facts about the group playing as well as the song history but that gets old after awhile also....i know there is no turning the clock back though....it is funny when sometime an Oldie comes on an a young kid says "i know that song it is from such & such movie"....i say "no it was used in that movie but it is from an era before your Parents were probably born" ...it is funny though because sometime when a group of 20 something's come into the Bar & Oldies are being played they snap their fingers & sing along i guess knowing it from a movie or TV show....sometime when there is nothing else new to listen to i like to google a song title & after listing to it on you tube i scroll the sidebar for another then another....each different song selected brings a new sidebar filled with more. ...of course i also have some of the PBS Doo Wop shows stored in my DVR......we have attended many live Doo Wop shows at places like QNS College ....The Beacon Theatre....Westbury Music Fair & various High Schools but these are quite lengthy & as more & more of the original artists no long perform these are not always like they used to be...they mostly are still good shows though its just that you can't "Fast Forward" thru a song or group you don't care for like you can on the DVR or Alexa...yes technology can spoil you.
