I think you mean those companies are not on the list to close.  They would never close adjoining houses.

How shocking! Mayor Bloomberg has announced that no NYPD officers will be laid off, because of public safety concerns! Yet, he is still going to close firehouses, and layoff firefighters. Now more than ever, this jerkoff's true colors are showing. He just wants to dismantle the FDNY!

"mercury", there's other depts that will hire EMTs and firefighters. I feel sorry for the innocient people of NYC that will surely suffer if these cuts take place. Also, what about the guys on the job that have families, mortages/rent to pay, and after all the testing process, the probie school, and thinking they are all set, are facing layoffs for God knows how long.

I think if you're smart you might apply to other cities too. FDNY is the best, but sometimes we have to take second or third choice. I know, it happened to me.

Lets just hope that this a$$ hole Mayor doesn't really come through with his totally a$$ine idea. Besides, he's so smart, they why can't he figure out another way.

PLEASE TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

Latest firehouse gossip i've heard(again, grain of salt.) is saying only 7 companies, 4/15(both) and 70/53(both) are once again on the block. Like I said, this is firehouse gossip...so who knows.

NYC fiscal year starts July 1.  The appropriate Community Board (a sort of a formal neighborhood association) must be advised of any fire house or company closings 45 days prior to implementation.
