"The Norwich Fire Department will be holding a recruitment for firefighter positions sometime in the Fall of 2014. The CPAT certification is a requirement. The enrollment period for the CPAT certification ends July 31, 2014. Interested parties should visit the Human Resources department (100 Broadway) AFTER the announcement for applications. Norwich is one of Connecticut's smaller city and located in New London County, in the eastern part of the state. Norwich currently has a population of just over 40,000 people living in 28.3 square miles of land. The Norwich Fire Department serves the city district of Norwich, an area of 3.5 square miles which includes half of Norwich's population. The other sections of Norwich are protected by volunteer fire companies. The Norwich Fire Department is made up of 55 members and operates 2 Fire Stations, 2 Engines(E2, E3), 1 Truck(T1), and 1 Squad(SQA). The NFD has an on-duty staff of 13 including an on-duty Battalion Chief and currently responds to approximately 3,200 emergency calls annually.
