The Intrepid is open from 1000 to 1800 daily.  On July 18 and 19 the museum will honor FDNY members by hosting "Firefighters and EMTs/Paramedics Appreciation Weekend."  Activities will include demonstrations, simulated rescues, and fire safety programs.  Admission is free for FDNY employees; family members get a discount.

The Blessing of the FDNY Marine Fleet is scheduled for 1100 Saturday, July 18.  There will be a ceremony on the flight deck followed by a water display.

So the fire safety events, and museum are open to the public on that weekend, they just have to pay normal admission? I ask because it would be a nice trip to the city with my 2.5yr old son, he loves firetrucks, and aircraft carriers.

What a day my little guy had at the USS Intrepid! We are going to make the firefighters appreciation day a yearly trip.

What admission price(s) did you wind up paying?  Glad your little guy enjoyed it.

I didn't pay admission, and I questioned that to the attendant at the counter, he said any fireman with ID regardless where you were from was free, i was under the impression that only FDNY members were free.

FDNY Appreciation Day at the USS Intrepid
July 20, 2009

Great photos on the New York City Fire Dept site - Includes TL 35 on the ship simulating a rescue

Unable to paste in web site - Hope you can handle this kfd274 -if not go to bravest.com site and view the gallery of photos - takes a couple of steps but hang in there
