NICK SCOPETTA RESIGNING
« on: October 08, 2009, 06:25:51 PM »
Just heard on WCBS TV news that the FC has said he'll resign at the end of this year "regardless of who wins the mayoral election."

From what I've read elsewhere, this will be no loss to the FDNY.

Maybe the mayor will appoint someone with backbone and character

Honestly, does the Mayor really want that kind of man. Whoever it is, you can be sure that the NEW Commissionor "Owes" the Mayor, not the Fire Dept. That's how politics works. "I make You, and You Owe Me". I would be very surprised to see different. It's like that from the Biggest City to the Smallest Towns.

Thanks for that comment, I needed a good laugh for the day! FC is a political job plain and simple.  A mayor is going to appoint someone to that position will support him in what he wants to do, not someone who will do what is good for the department.

Damn right it won't be a loss for us. He should never have been chosen to be FC to begin with. He has no clue what firefighting entails and he deffinately has no clue about how we do things on the job.

Does anyone know is it the same way with the Police Commish? I mean as far as the politics, or is it a cop that climbs the career ladder.

As an outsider looking in, it was terribly evident that he wasn't the sharpest tack.
