No not in the '50s .....no BN*25 or even BN*12-2 until the mid to late '60s  when BN*12-2 became BN*25 & moved to ENG*91 & then was disbanded 11-29-89  ...also  i would say LAD*43 was 1st Due LAD back then from 242 East 111 St bet 2nd & 3rd Aves  w/ENG*91.

68jk09 , I have a story to share . 53 & 43 . I lived the East Harlem many years. I lived directly across From El Barrios Bravest. As a kid I remember playing stickball right in front of my building facing their soon to be quarters. One summer Day the tenements that used to occupy that space caught fire all three building were abandoned. Out of the three buildings one had a tenant. An older lady on the second floor. I can remember most of us screaming Fire , and a passerby pulled the Box 1278. Our Parish Priest from Holy Agony next store met the firefighters out in front of the building. Eng 53 responded south on third ave from their old quarters on 104th st. Pulled a line. Ladder 43 from then 111 ST arrived coming East on 102st. They had to be the fastest truck in the city I swear it. Old Alf. 43 entered the building and sure enough a Window breaks on the second floor , and a Member carries the woman down to safety via the fire escape. Their Quarters is the site of that act of valor. I will never forget it.

From 1966 to 1969 I attended Benjamin Franklin HS at Pleasant Ave. btwn 114th & 116th St. I remember standing on the front steps of the school looking west on 115th St. seeing L26's 1960 ALF responding in the distance with their homemade convertible top riot cab cover. It had a hinge that allowed them on "safe days" to fold back the front part over the driver and officer. I also remember from 1963-1965, just before I went to the school, responses of three (E35, E58 & E91)1963 International pumpers on a box. 1968-69, I got to see and hear both L26 & L43 running with their loud 1968 ALF tillers that sounded like diesel  locomotives. Finally in 1969, I got to see E91-2 running around in their 1969 Mack RF crew cab engine.
