   I happen to have a 77 year old version of the assignment for that box. . There have been a couple of big fires on that box including the Dec. 31, 1946 fire where Engines 20 and 25 were disbanded and taken out of service while still at the fireground. Also, the big Wannamaker warehouse fire in 1956.

Can anyone advise how many trucks were special called. Looks like 10 to 12 maybe?

Thanks for the truck totals. I work in JC , NJ we do not have 15 truck companies in the entire city here. We would have to combine Jersey city and North Hudson to hit that number. Amazing the resources available.

Did they literally send the guys home and remove the units during operations when the clock hit midnight?

Count the number of companies that no longer exist on the alarm card, incredible how the level of available companies has changed.

I doubt it.....but the Manhattan dispatchers never again received the telegraph signal 4-4-4-20 or 4-4-4-25. In other words, they never tapped back into service as was the custom in those days.
