Public Information Officer
« on: November 17, 2017, 12:28:23 AM »
Looking up the list of units required on a 10-76, I noticed that one of them is a "Public Information Officer". I've listened to many 10-76s and don't remember hearing such a designation. Is this the task of one of the assigned BCs? Or Car 23 maybe?

Not sure of the designation of Car 23, but the PIO is the press office.  After incident is either Probably will hold or Under Control, a chief officer will usually talk to the press.  No chief is specifically assigned as PIO.

It is an official assignment.  Someone from press desk.  At the end of Ops, will be a chief talking.

Sorry for replying late to this thread but I can offer input having worked there. He's the lowest civilian member in the Office of the FDNY DCPI's OPI and is assigned an unmarked car.
