I thought FDNY does not normally cut pitched roofs unless from a bucket or ladder?

We don’t. I don’t think they were cutting. From why I was told, smoke wasn’t lifting in attic. The where removing shingles over the gable vent.
Also, sq 8 is 1/2 mile closer than the vollies.  Sq 8 at corner of Travis and Victor, Vollies closer to West Shore Expy.
