Sunday 3/31

2 incidents on the VN bridge today:

1: Motorcyclist struck @ 92nd Street exit off bridge - E161/L81 were 10-84

2: NY state police, good samaritans and NYPD pull a man down from the ledge of the bridge. Man was over the ledge, NYSP and citizen passing by reached over and helped secure man. NYPD arrived seconds later and together the group pulled the man back over the ledge onto the roadway. EXCELLENT job by all involved with this, the video was incredible.

And today the bridge toll was raised to $19... making it the most expensive bridge toll in the country

Pics are from video posted by NYScanner on Twitter:

When the VZ opened in '64 the toll was .50 cents which then was a quarter higher than the other TBTA bridges and tunnels. By the way, what ever happened to eliminating tolls after the bridges and tunnel were paid for? Guess they were never paid off. :o

They were paid off.    The TBTA is now part of the MTA and the bridge money is used to subsidize the mass transit system

MTA - where tens of thousands, probably more, ride for free - just walk right in!!! No wonder it needs to be subsidized and still loses millions every year.
