Would this pumper only go out to huge fires? Doesn't make sense to send it to anything below a 5th alarm.

If it was to be used to supply master streams on either a satellite monitor or, more commonly a towerladder, it easily could be assigned before a 5-5.  Towerladder streams are deployed much earlier in an incident.

Didn't think of that. Why is the FDNY bringing them back?

Since all of the new Engine Companies have 2000 GPM pumps it certainly doesn't sound like it would be a lot of need for this. Since the satellites are the only company for carry LDH they certainly would have to respond with his unit. I wonder if possibly they would even consider another tender type vehicle to go with this pumper.

I wonder if it's just an idea they are kicking around and they are trying to get pricing for such a unit.

do you have facebook ?    https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewYorkFireTrucks/?fref=nf
That doesn't really prove that FDNY is going to get one, it's just somebody else's statement without any factual information to back it up. Until we see a copy of a specification or better yet a purchase order it's just a rumor.

Actually. It was guitarmans post on Facebook after going to the fire bell clubs annual shops visit, and the news was part of the director of the shops presentation to those in attendance.

WAG:  It'll be a Ferrara Industrial on an Ultra chassis, with a stainless steel US Fire High Velocity Pump (HVP).

Now:  watch the trolls. 8) ::) :o :P

And:  If you don't know what WAG means, ask anybody who has served in the military.  ;)

I believe that Pierce Manufacturing also builds industrial pumpers.

Yes, they certainly do, here's the page for them: https://www.piercemfg.com/high-flow-industrial-apparatus
However, in the past Pierce has not bid on any FDNY equipment for many reasons, the biggest being the warranty requirements. The only exception was Rescue 2 but that's a different issue and it wasn't really bid.

Pierce 💩💨
I'm not sure why you have an opinion, many apartments across the US swear by Pierce apparatus and have great success using it.
