Unit location chart
« on: June 12, 2019, 05:14:10 PM »
I came across a FDNY unit location chart that I am trying to date. Battalion 1 @ E-10 had E-6,7- and 10, Ladders 1 and 15. I am going to assume this is from the mid to late 70's, total
units were 210 engines and 139 ladders, give or take. Thanx.

Battalion 1 @ E-7 had E-6,7- and 10, Ladders 1 and 15 from 1975 to 1984.  Note that they were on Duane St with E-7.  They were with E-10 from 1931 to 1936 and from 1970 to 1974.

You probably have an October 1976 unit location chart with the date found in the lower right corner.

Great memory!  Battalion 1 was on Fulton St from 1949 to 1968, then temporarily on Liberty St, both with L-10, until 1970.

This chart had no CFC's, the 1976 did. But it is probably within a year or two, thanks.

Grump,

There was a unit location chart dated April 1, 1973, published in WNYF, that shows Battalion 1 with with E-10 on Water St, comprised of Engines 6, 7, and 10, Ladders 1, 15, and 10 and no CFCs.  Getting closer?

The CFCs appeared from 1974 to 1977 and Ladder 10 was disbanded from 1975 to 1984.  If your unit location chart does not show L-10 or any CFC's, the time frame would be late 1977 to mid 1984.  There was a chart published in 1976 which had the CFC (but no L-10) and the next published one was in 1987 which showed L-10 (but no CFC).

The only unresolved inconsistency is that Battalion 1 was only with Engine 10 until 1974 and Ladder 10 was still in service.  When Ladder 10 was disbanded from 1975 to 1984, Battalion 1 was with Engine 7 on Duane St.

Then Battalion 1 was with Engine 10 and Ladder 15 on Water St from 1970 to 1974.  Ladder 10 left Fulton St to temporary quarters on Liberty St in 1968.
