Toronto, Canada - Raptors Championship Parade
« on: June 17, 2019, 06:41:12 PM »
The Toronto Fire Service was kept busy all day with the Raptors NBA championship parade and celebration through the downtown core and outside city hall. It has been reported that there were over 1.5 million in attendance. Hundreds of medical calls were responded to including a shooting which injured 4 towards the end of the day.

Here is a rundown of how the department managed the day:

Alpha Sector followed the parade itself and was managed by Car 30, the South Command Platoon Chief (Equivalent to FDNY Division).
Pumper 332 and Rescue 325 were assigned and worked with the Police Public Order Unit for any incidents along the parade route.

Bravo Sector covered the celebration at Nathan Philips Square, which was packed with people from early in the morning and is where the shooting occurred. Most of the calls were medical in nature and members responded on foot, with rigs parked outside of the barriers. The following companies were put to use:
- Car 20 (East Command Platoon Chief) in Command
- District Chiefs 32, 33 (Equivalent to Battalion Chief)
- Pumpers 315, 322, 314, 145, 331, 311, 426, 226, 333, 325
- Rescues 321, 326, 345 (Pumper + Auto Extrication Tools, in Toronto, the heavy rescues are called "Squads")
- Tower 333
- Air/Light 333 (Shuttled supplies to companies)
- Support 7 and Box 12 (Rehab Units)

Station 332 is a few blocks from the square and had various Pumpers relocated, along with the High Rise Unit (which runs a crew of 4 and is regularly assigned to incidents within its district), and HazMat 332, which is the primary CBRNE team for the city.

The units stationed or relocated to surrounding downtown stations responded to the incidents outside of the parade route/square, including Stations 334, 333, 314, 331, 314, 315, 325, 344, 345 and 426. There were (as usual) a large number of alarm calls, reports of fires, vehicle incidents and stuck elevators, among other calls, in this area.
