Emergency services battled a major fire in a derelict building in Mallow, Co Cork on the 4th of January. The blaze broke out at the site of the old Central Hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Several units of the county fire brigade including ( Mallow, Charleville, Kanturk, Midleton and Cork City ) where sent to the scene and it is believed the fire had caused extensive damage. Traffic restrictions where put in place in Mallow as a result. It is believed water restrictions over the last couple of weeks made making it difficult to put the fire out.
