Six residents were rescued by firefighters from high rise flats on North Queen Street in the New Lodge area after fire broke out on the 16th floor. All suffered smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Fire fighters used three main jets to extinguish the blaze. A community hall was opened to deal with a number of evacuated residents. Whilst dealing with the blaze Firefighters came under attack from youths who threw bottles from the flats.
