I look at those pictures TODAY, and what a different place from what it was during those Busy War Years. In the photos isONE vacant lot that is now being cleaned up. WOW, that's a change. And I know most of you out there won't believe this, BUT, I spent a few nights at that McDonalds on Broadway and Whipple. The other favorire was a little farther East on Broadway at Koskicio, as in Bridge. (I could Never spell that).

Been a long time since I updated my passport to go to Willimsburg, But it is amazing to see those pictures today. What a difference.

Chief,

Thanks for the link. While I didn't spend a lot of time in Williamsburg (unless relocated there), I did go to a retreat house on Humbolt and Richardson several times during high school for retreats.
Interesting to see how Williamsburg has come/is coming back from the old days.
Gotta wonder why 108/216's house wasn't pictured

I taught at All Saints High School on Whipple St south of Broadway.  Bill just think of it:  I was probably working hard teaching and you were at McDonald's Ristorante  having the "Early Bird" special :) :)

From Don Van Holt's site:

E 216 FDNY (originally E 16 BFD) - A Brooklyn Fire Deptatment firehouse built in 1893.  Address 16 Scholes Street. Two-story firehouse cost $10,000.  Originally had stalls for horses.  Racks on walls to dry hose.

The photo on the left must've been taken before 1913 when the firehouse was renovated to look like it did in the righthand side photo. The address was 11 Scholes St. ;)
