General Discussion / Boston Sparks Fire, 1-17-1983
« Last post by grumpy grizzly on Today at 11:05:02 AM »
On January 16-17, 1983 a 2-alarm fire destroyed the quarters of the Boston Sparks Association on Fourth Street in South Boston. This fire was attributed to the group of arsonists that were attempting to burn down the city. There motives were several, opposition to Prop 2 1/2 which cut companies, the BSA refusing membership to them among others. Fire destroyed the second and third floors where all the artifacts, antiques, memoralibia, and models were kept. This was especially painful for me as I had made several models, including a large English model with escape ladder which took me several months.
But from this incident arose a better Boston Sparks Association, with new quarters @ Congress Street firehouse which became the museum. In addition the "coffee wagon" was improved and enlargened. I am sure "Mack" can add to this. Proud to say I was a member until I moved to Chicago.

AC Theresa Shortell is the daughter of a ret Fireman who worked in Eng 216 & L159.
There was also a Lt. in the Police Academy during the 60's and 70's with the same last name. Wonder if he's related also?

I'll find out.

SAY A PRAYER FOR THIS BROTHER IN BLUE STILL IN A COMA 27 YEARS LATER...  https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/theerant/p-o-troy-patterson-let-s-keep-him-in-our-prayers-t27920.html

Without police officers like this risking their lives for us, a lot of us could be the one's lying in a coma from a bullet wound instead.

I am very thankful for ALL the police officers who are out there every day and night, NOT really knowing if they could be next. Or their families home wondering the same thing too.
