Title: Bicentennial Apparatus
Post by: tperez102 on July 01, 2019, 09:04:54 PM
Hello All as we fast approach the 4th of July Holiday would anyone happen to have throwback photos of F.D.N.Y. Equipment painted for the 1976 200 Year Bicentennial.? I remember Engine 76 had a huge 76 Covering the Front of the rig . We were painting hydrants in RED , WHITE and BLUE. Fire house roll doors also. Any photos would be appreciated.

"tperez102", not apparatus but firehouse doors. I got this from the thread "FDNY and NYC Firehouses" (original) which was posted on Sept 9, 2014 by mack in reply # 894. Some photos from WNYF. I'm sure there's more out there too.

Cool to see there was a contest for the best door. 330/172 won first place with a cool painting of Ben Franklin. Amazing!

Middle left photo (in link in jk Reply #3) was E330, L172; one of the best. Within the field of stars at upper left, was a wonderful silhouette of a steamer with horses responding and banking into a turn.  The only drawback was the two bands above and below Ben Franklin's portrait.  The lettering within the bands was somewhat crude and inconsistent with the fine quality of the rest of the door.

If anyone has a good color photo of this door, please post. This first-class job surely deserves being seen again.

For Bicentennial Apparatus, my vote would be for L-173 (the 1968 ALF Tiller) they painted in the Red, White and Blue scheme. Sorry, I don't know how to add the picture.

I remember seeing that picture too. The stars and stripes in Red, White and Blue covering the entire cab of that 1968 ALF Tiller.

If you have that picture and somebody can post it, "it's really a Great tribute to the USA and certainly a classic in it's own class.

Well, it's not L173's ALF, but it is a Bicentennial rig.  Ladder 8's Seagrave on Aug 4, 1977.  Johnny Floyd photo.
