"Two foam units were special called from Boston's Logan International Airport. A firefighting team has also been requested and is enroute from the Naval Submarine Base FD in Groton, Connecticut. That would entail at least a 3+ hour response time! "

Certainly not something that surprises me.  I'm actually quite surprised that the crew of the Miami didn't have to keep a fire suppression team on site around the clock while the sub was in drydock.  The crews have very specialized training for firefighting within the vessel.  I wonder if the team from Groton drove or arrived by helicopter?

The Groton Team drove up. Prob 2 1/2 - 3 hr drive (normally that is).......and were put to work. Great group of guys and highly trained.
