ANOTHER WAR YEARS VET PASSES.
« on: November 29, 2012, 07:25:24 PM »
It is with regret that I announce the death of Retired Capt.Jack Boyle of Engine Co.5. Jack retired in the early 90's as a result of a fall down a pole hole in response to an alarm.Capt.Jack was a FDNY historian and well read man.He put his illustrious career in Eng 231,Bn44,Ladder 12, Eng 209 and finally Engine 5. Jack was also a longtime member and President emeritus of the FDNY Fireman's Cycle Club.

A true FDNY Legend .....Jack was into every facet of the FDNY & knew just about all the big names firsthand.....he used to hold court regularly in the "Grandstand" on Grand Ave w/a small group of Retirees....Wake Friday only at Kearns Funeral Home Woodhaven Blvd & 61 Ave http://kearnsfamily.com/rego ....... Mass Sat in the Ascension Church (behind the school across from 287/136 FH) http://www.churchoftheascension.org/directions.htm ......REST IN PEACE BROTHER.

May he rest in peace. He was a big man on the job in plenty of ways and his colorful communications with the Brooklyn dispatcher as a 44 Aide will probably never be equalled.

Bill ....2 things ....First... somewhere along the line earlier tonight the slogan came up that on Christmas Eve the gates of Heaven were open for the Irish ....all well & good but i do not think that you had to invoke that or even had to "flash the tin" ...i am sure you got in on your own merits....Second.... after closing MAGGIE MAYS tonight & passing KELLYS Car Service where you moonlighted late 50s early 60s while working as a Postal Carrier here in Bayside before getting OTJ i just thought it was some kind of a sign that after all those years the name of that business remained the same ...hardly any other business if any on the Bell Blvd strip has kept the same name .....maybe it had something to do w/your tenacity ......RIP FRIEND & BROTHER......much Jamoe in your honor tonight.

Chief William Jones, I never met him. However I always enjoyed reading his War Years comments on the Rant. I once asked a member of this site if they knew who "Kimba" was. Of course he did. He was well respected throughout the FDNY.

I believe there is an Excellent photo of Chief Jones on Mikes web site www.fdnysbravest.com .

Rest in Peace Chief. You did a Great job and Thank You for your services to Our Country and to the Citizens of the City of New York.

Clinton Corners- - Russell C. Zens, 76, loving husband of Joan "Patsy" and father of Daniel moved on to be with the Lord early on January 18, 2013 after fighting bladder cancer. Russ was a big man with an even bigger heart.

On October 19, 1957, he married Joan P. Calhoun at the Immaculate Conception Church in Bronx, NY.

Russ honored God by serving Him, our country, and our neighborhood and through everyday actions and involvement in many of the following jobs and organizations: Immaculate Conception Church in Bangall, NY, the Stanford Grange, the Stanfordville Fire Department, thirty seven years with the FDNY in the South Bronx, twenty years with the US Army Reserves, and the Northern Dutchess Rod and Gun Club. His service with these organizations was only surpassed by his love and dedication to his family.

He was well known as "Santa Claus," a role to which his spirit and personality have given life to for many years with his various organizations, and playing the role for friends and family as well. Russ epitomized the ultimate giving, love and service others. May God bless you Russ.

Mr. Zens is survived by his loving wife Joan "Patsy" Zens of Stanfordville, and his son Daniel Zens of Stanfordville.
