FDNY Snorkel
« on: June 18, 2017, 12:06:34 PM »
To answer a question, settle an arguement, and keep the peace on a FB site. Why was FDNY's "involvement" with a snorkel-type apparatus? Not the two " articulating boom" apparatus. Did they test purchase one, or just test its applications vs the TL? Thank guys. Happy Father's Day by the way!

Grump - I don't believe FDNY ever did purchase any articulating boom ladder apparatus.  I believe they did look at some, maybe even tested some - but decided the telescopic variety (e.g. - tower ladders) were more versatile for NYC - higher reach of stream; better transport capabilities; easier to avoid power lines.

If I am not mistaken that apparatus is a squirt.

That is Engine 310's squirt.  Engine 71 had 2nd squirt.  Approx 1970.
