Location: West 96th St. & Broadway (IRT 1 Line)

Train collision and derailment

Initial assignment was for West 103 & Broadway (Box 7109, companies were then redirected to West 96)

B-11: We do have a derailment - Awaiting power off to evacuate passengers - 15:20

D-3: We have 2 trains that collided, we're evacuating through the train that's in the station right now - 15:28

FC: Special call an additional BC - 15:41

FC: All Hands - 15:42

L-43 FAST, E-39 w/ HR-2, E-46 Comm.

FC: Per C-12, We had a collision between a local & an express train - Continuing to evacuate trains & assess patients - DWH - 15:57

FC: Patient count is currently at 21, (18) green tag, (1) yellow tag & (2) orange tag - 16:31

FC: Under Control - D-3 and some of the companies are proceeding to B-9's location - 16:32

Durations: 1 Hour & 30 Min.

CW1/HT1 - West 96th St. & Broadway for the Trauma.
Car 5E/CW1 - This Incident is confirmed, transmit the signal and move everybody to Citywide.
C11/CW1 - Transmit the 31.
MB/CW1 - Two Trains collided together. At this time 7 Patients, 6 Green Tag, 1 Yellow Tag.
MB/CW1 - Up the patient count to 6 Green Tags, 1 Orange and 1 Yellow. (Total of 8.)
MB/CW1 - 13 Green Tags, 1 Orange Tag, 1 Yellow Tag. (Total of 15)
CW1/MB - C16 to H20 for Tracking.
MB/CW1 - Send 2 BLS and an Officer to Broadway & 86th, a train is evacuating there. (C10, 06A)
MB/CW1 - Call the hospital and find out how many patients they are able to take. (H12, H13, H20)
MB/CW1 - Update on the Patient Count, Total is 21, 18 Green, 2 Orange, 1 Yellow.
MB/CW1 - Get an additional BLS Unit.
MB/CW1 - Have any units at the hospital return to the scene.

My understanding is all hands signals given in transit require the assignment of additional units not assigned to a conventional all hands. These include the rebreather unit, rescue battalion, tac, field comm, one Nolan cart unit, and one high rise unit. In terms of why the HR gets assigned, I suspect for the reasons stated above, i.e. some of their specialized equipment.

I'm not very familiar with the FDNY yet, so that's my question. In NYC there are also some kind of keywords that determine which units drive and which don't Or does it always depend on the situation. I have read a few old reports from the website here where it was still the case that at the beginning only one engine, one ladder and one BC were alerted or is it like now, for example, here with us, where the fire dispatchers alert directly more on some operations than on other operations where you are not yet sure what exactly is now
