On Saturday, February 7, 2026, around 8:15 pm, the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting flames coming from a house in the 300 block of Greenfield St. Engine 1, Engine 4, Engine 5, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, and Car 3 responded to the incident. Engine 3 cleared from a run at Sacred Heart University and responded to the incident, and Engine 2 responded once able to clear from a medical call. Car 3, under the command of Asst. Chief Robert Delmhorst arrived first on scene and reported fire showing from a 1-story wood-frame private dwelling. Ladder 2 arrived shortly following and started initial fire attack with their water can until Engine 1 arrived on the scene. Battling sub-freezing temps with strong winds, a sub-0 wind chill, and frozen hydrants, firefighters were able to push through and limit the spread of the fire as much as possible. 3 lines were stretched and operated, and the main body of fire was knocked down approximately 1 hour after the initial alarm. 2 dogs were rescued from the home during the fire, and 2 other dogs unfortunately passed away. There were no other injuries to report. The Fairfield Fire Marshal's Office, with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit, are investigating the cause of this fire.
