I know FDNY has houses known for their fire activity. What are the houses in Chicago that are known for their fire activity?

I've always wondered what the three digit numbers mean in Chicago.  2-7-2, 2-5-3.  Hose wagons etc.  Can anyone explain it?

Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, they're all special/support units/chiefs that have the 3 digit numbers. To be honest, I'm not sure why exactly these units are numbered this way.

Grumpy might know more specifics.

Problems with that site, any questions please ask. 2-1-? are top brass, 2-7-1/4 are comm vans, assigned to all bona fire fires.

The new link works. Great find Grumpy! It answered a lot of questions that I personally didn't know.

For example, there was a TV show pilot someone found here on the internet about a group of CFD Fire Marshals and the CFD's Fire Alarm Office. It was called, Chicago 2-1-2. I always wondered what "2-1-2" stood for. I thought it had something to do with an alarm level. But, actually, it is a radio signature no longer used for the Main Fire Alarm Office. 2-1-1 was used for the Englewood Fire Alarm Office(In the CFD there are two Fire Alarm Offices: Main on the North Side and Englewood on the South, similar to how in NYC, each borough has a Fire Alarm Office).
