23:16 hours
10-12 for Battalion 47 responding from the far end of the Rockaways.

23:22 hours
E266 requests a 10-7.

23:23 hours
Call came in through transit from a passing train, reporting they spotted flames near the North Channel Bridge, but no longer see it.

23:24 hours
Transit reports fire is approximately 800-1000 feet from the North Channel Bridge between the Howard Beach and Broad Channel Stations

23:24 hours
E331: We're just south of the North Channel Bridge, we see some kind of flames in the direction of Kennedy Airport, we can't tell if it's on the airport grounds or some marshland, but we can't reach it from here.
Marine 9 assigned

23:37 hours
JFK Airport tower reports they see something but cannot determine what it is.

23:28 hours
Marine 9 has a 15 minute ETA

23:32 hours
Battalion 47 requests a 10-10 for all companies.
E266 is at 1000' before the North Channel Bridge, they have an access there that they are driving in to determine if it is brush in that area.
E331/L173 are just south of the North Channel Bridge.

23:36 hours
E331: If you're in contact with a Harbor Unit via telephone, is there anyway you can contact them and radio them over there to see what we have there?

23:37 hours
E266: Relay to Battalion 47 we're down the access road near the tracks, we see something up ahead, we're trying to gain access.

23:39 hours
PD Harbor Unit: It's on the south side of the railroad bridge, south of Howard Beach, you won't be able to access it from Howard Beach, have to come from the Broad Channel Side.  It's on the Broad Channel Side.

23:46 hours
E331: Advise the Battalion that E266 has found the fire, it's on the east side of the railroad tracks.

23:47 hours
BC47: We're going to need power-off on all tracks between Howard Beach and Broad Channel.

23:52 hours
BC47: Have  L173 and E331 respond down the access road to help with the stretch.

23:54 hours
BC47: Have Marine 9 continue in and we will be 10-99 (units operating over 30 minutes)

23:56 hours
Queens requesting a confirmation that power needs to be shut on all tracks.
BC47: That's affirmative, inbound and outbound, both directions.

23:57 hours
As of 23:54 hours, as per IND Dispatcher 122, power has been shut off in both directions from Aqueduct to Broad Channel.

00:04 hours
Queens requesting an approximate street location for where companies are operating.
BC47: We're just south of the bridge on the east side.  There is a sign, but there's no other cross streets around here.

00:07 hours
BC47: You can have Marine 9 turn back.

00:09 hours
E293 is 10-8 in E266's response area

00:20 hours
E225 is 10-8 in E331's response area

00:35 hours
BC47: 10-21 (Brush Fire) Box 1634, you can have transit turn the power back on, all members are away from the tracks, the fire is out, units will go 10-8 as they become available.  Battalion 47 is 10-8, you can turn around the relocating battalion.

Three points. Number one, it is a pain in the neck to get back there. I can remember a number of nasty fires over the years out there. Secondly, I don't know why Marine 9 gets assigned to these boxes when it's almost a certainty they draw too much water to get in there and effectively operate. Thirdly, I wonder if that's actually a Gateway box.
