@1250: Batt. 31 transmits 10-75-487 for a manhole explosion in front of 40 Columbia Place, near Jouralemon Street, Brooklyn Heights Section of Brooklyn.

Engines 224, 205, 207   Ladders 118, 110  Batt. 31

Ladder 101 (fast truck), Div. 11, Engine 226, Squad 1, Rescue 2, Bn 32.

@1251: 75-487: Bn. 31 reports using all hands, visible flames from a manhole, numerous explosions in the area, numerous manholes involved, two lines stretched.

Also received a report of an explosion in transit, IRT 4 line, Boro Hall Station.  Bn. 31 requests additional box transmitted for that location.

Bn. 31 reports due to the explosions there is no power to the transit fans in the tunnel under the East River.

Box 458 transmitted for the IRT train station with Bn. 57 responding with 3 and 2.

Bn. 31 requests National Grid supervisor; workcrew on scene believes they hit a gas main.

@1258: Notification to Div.11: report of 220 people trapped in IRT 2 line at Clark Street Station.

@1259: Transit reports power back on IRT 2 line and train is moving.

@1301: Ladder 123 relocating to Ladder 110.

@1303: National Grid responding with a one hour ETA; OEM is also responding.

@1304: Engine 218 acting Engine 205 is 10-8.

@1309: Bn. 31: need National Grid forthwith, evacuating numerous buildings due to high gas levels.

@1314: Bn. 31: five manholes blown plus one transformer vault on fire.  Buildings evacuated: 1,2,4,6,8 Willow Place and 49,51,52, 53-59, and 62 Jouralemon Street.  The sewer line was hit by a private contractor.

@1315: Bn. 57: at Boro Hall Station, box 458, there is no power in the station, there are two trains in the station and they will remain there; no need for evacuation.

@1317: Ladder 104 acting Ladder 118 is 10-8.

@1326: Div. 11: special call two additional trucks and have a Transit Authority representative respond.  Ladder 105 and Ladder 131 s/c.

Bn. 28 relocated to Bn 31.

@1335: Safety Bn. is responding to 75-487.

@1336: Div. 11: special call one additional Batt. Chief and have them respond to the command post.  Bn. 57 s/c.

@1339: Div. 11: numerous agencies on scene, active manhole explosions, fire remains doubtful.  Fire duration is one hour seventeen minutes.

@1343: Div. 11: special call Field Comm. Unit to Columbia and Jouralemon Streets.

@1348: Div. 11: Transit rep. on scene reports all trains in the tunnel have been evacuated; service on IRT 4 and 5 lines has been suspended.

@1400: Field Comm.: Div. 11 reports incident in power sub station at 25 Willow Place has affected the transit system, determining status of all trains, conditions remain the same.  Incident duration is 1 hour 39 minutes.

@1410: Field Comm.: attempting to restore power to the transit system; need to ascertain whether any members are on the tracks.  Dispatcher reports no members on tracks.

Engine 228 relocated to Engine 226; Ladder 157 relocated to Ladder 131.

@1421: Field Comm.: Car 6, Asst. Chief Esposito reports transit has restored power to the effected area, continuing to monitor conditions on Willow Place and Jouralemon Streets, incident remains doubtful.

@1434: Ladder 8 acting Ladder 101 is 10-8.

@1516: Field Comm: Car 6, Chief Esposito reports National Grid excavating around site looking for location of gas leak, precautionary lines stretched and standing by, trucks monitoring gas levels, probably will hold.

@1539: Div.11: National Grid has excavated to reveal the gas line break, incident is under control, releasing Bn. 32 and Ladder 105.  Incident duration is 3 hours 18 minutes.

@1721: At 1800 hrs, relief will be needed for Bn. 31, one engine, and one ladder at box 487.
