For those who don't know, and mack, please correct me on this if I'm mistaken, a little background info on the Alexandria Fire Department.

The AFD operates out of 9 Fire Stations in 2 Battalions, and operate 8 Engines(including a Rescue Engine), 3 Trucks, 1 Rescue Squad, 5 Medic Ambulances, 1 Haz-Mat. Unit, 1 Haz-Mat. Support Unit w/Trailer, 1 Light & Air Unit, 3 Fireboats, 1 Safety Unit, 1 EMS Commander, 1 Battalion Aide Unit, and 1 Marine Operations Support Unit. The AFD plans to add a 10th Fire Station/Training Facility in the city's West End that will house an Engine and a Medic Ambulance.

According to their website, the AFD has 273 employees, including 1 Chief of Department, 3 Assistant Chiefs, 1 Division Chief, 10 Battalion Chiefs, 24 Captains, 19 Lieutenants, 113 Firefighters, 59 ALS Paramedics, 10 EMS Supervisors, and 1 EMS Operations Supervisor. The AFD responded to 18,120 fire and EMS calls in 2011.

Thanks fdny1075k for the great summary of AFD.  Alex is a top-notch department - well-trained, great members, they operate very professionally.  My firehouse responds with them all the time.  Frequently you get Alex, Arlington County (another good department) and Fairfax County units responding into incidents together.

The units that responded to this fire were from:

1st Alarm: E201 (Alex), E204 (Alex), E203 (Alex), E205 (Alex), T203 (Alex), T204 (Alex), RS104 (Arlington), BC211 (Alex), BC406 (Fairfax County), SO201 (Alex), BA215 (Alex), EMS231 (Alex)

2nd Alarm: M207 (Alex), E424 (Fairfax), FM223 (Alex), E301 (Reagan Airport), LA207 (Alex), E209 (Alex), BC212 (Alex)

Assignment of units from different departments are automatic -does not require mutual aid requests.

"mack", thank you for the Excellent rundown on this job and the others in the surrounding counties. Last year "mack" gave me a tour of his area and the depts there. I'm very impressed with the depts there.
Questions....SO201 is the Safety Officer, BA215 is the Breathing Apparatus, EMS231 is the EMS Supervisor, LA207 is Ladder Co 207 ?
Four individual fire departments on one fire with all automatic responses. Very impressive.

"fdny1075", thank you for posting the Alexendria Fire Dept Profile. You always do a good job. I know him as Emmett M., and this you guy is a true gentleman. He is really into the fire service and he post jobs from Boston to Virginia. I don't know how he does it. But, could you do your Old Uncle Wilfred a big favor and post this info in the thread called "Fire Dept Profiles" in the National Section if it's not in there already. I have saved the list into a thing called a scan disk, and I use it if I go to another area.
