SUBJECT: Inside view of Fires, and Fire Apparatus in and around Windy City,
Chicago, USA
SPEAKER: Steve Redick, a retired Senior Chicago Fire Alarm Operator and is the author of several books on the fire service. As a longtime Fire Photographer, he has shared his work over the years so that others can learn.
Steve is a lifelong fire fan and a retired member of the Chicago Fire Department where he worked in the fire alarm office for 35 years. He held all the ranks from dispatcher aide to coordinating supervisor. He retired in 2015 but has remained active responding to and photographing fire scenes and apparatus in both the “big city” and the suburbs. Steve has amassed a huge collection of photos, videos and various artifacts and maintains a very active website and youtube channel highlighting historical and current fire content. Steve has been a skilled photographer and fireground attendee for over 50 years.
Firefighting has been a family business….his great grandfather Henry was a member of the CFD from 1887 until 1928…worked on horse drawn steamers as well as motorized rigs. Steve’s grandfather Ray had a long career on the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol, retiring as Deputy Chief before moving on to be the Chief of the Skokie ILL fire Department through the 1960s. Steve’s dad, Warren also served as a Lieutenant on the fire patrol and joined the CFD in 1959, where he retired as a battalion chief. Steve grew up in a firehouse environment!
Steve will delve into his collection a share a little bit of a lot of things and hopefully keep your interest and maybe answer some questions and have fun along the way.
