Runs 78 & 79 (8/25- 8/26 2017)
On Friday evening at approximately 22:45 hours Boston Fire Alarm transmitted Box 1376 for a building fire at the corner of Beacon and Charles Streets in the vicinity of the Boston Common, after the initial announcement BFAO reported that that they were receiving calls for an address of 72 Charles Street for a fire on the roof.
First arriving companies reported smoke showing form the four story attached masonry single family residence, the occupants a father, Au pare? and three children self-evacuated and the companies began advancing lines and laddering the building.
Companies began the initial attack setting up on Beacon Street while Ladder 1 the RIT on the first alarm was directed to the rear of the building along with Engine 33 and Ladder 15 to conduct operations there.
A second alarm was transmitted for additional resources as the fire building was in row attached to a similar five story building and concerns for possible extension needed the extra help.
A-10 and A-11 with crew members Paul Boudreau, Brian Kerins and Steve Costa were just about to back into quarters after a night of training and were able to respond immediately.
While on scene we set up Rehab with BFD W-25 in front of the building on Beacon Street disturbing water, Gatorade and cold towels for the crews operating there.
Fast, aggressive firefighting contained the fire to the roof and top floor ceiling areas with no extension to the exposures.
While on scene at approximately 23:20 Boston Fire Alarm transmitted Box 2841 for the report of a building fire at the intersection of Crest and Whittemore Streets in the West Roxbury section of the city. Ladder 25 reported heavy fire and the rear of a large 2 ? story occupied residence well involved and ordered a second alarm. The fire was located in a rear attached one story carriage house with extension to floors one and two of the 60?X40? house. Companies on scene successfully removed the sole occupant an elderly gentlemen to the safety of the neighbor?s home across the street. Despite the heavy fire conditions firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the heavy fire to the rear portion of the house.
After consulting with BFD W-25 A-10 and A-11 quickly packed up and responded to the West Roxbury second alarm with W-25 remaining on Beacon Street for the overhauling operation.
On scene in West Roxbury we distributed 3 cases of Gatorade, 3 cases of water, 60 cold towels, and two packages of Rescue wipes to members on scene. W25 responded after clearing from Beacon Street.
A-10 and A-11 returned to quarters to restock by 02:00 hours.
