Response at 2:37pm to 17 Burr St in Jamaica Plain for a building fire. Smoke showing on arrival. Fire in the attic of a 2 1/2 story single family house. 2nd alarm ordered.

There was a pix showing a jake from Ladder 21 using a plastic helmet. Someone's response was it was a limited building access piece of hardware. Is this true????

The last couple of probie classes coming out of the Boston Academy have been issued plastic helmets, no more leather. If you're a BFD member who has or wants to wear a leather, you're definitely allowed to, but the BFD stopped issuing them to new recruits out of a cost-cutting measure. I guess they figure they'd rather spend $200 per helmet than $500.
