Cops in the Rockaways have been targeted for an attack with ?Drano bombs,? the Daily News has learned.

The NYPD issued a citywide alert Tuesday warning officers about ?Drano bombs,? also known as ?bottle bombs,? that ?are exploded by readily mixing available household products in plastic containers.?

Police sources said that while the alert went to every precinct, the greatest concern is in the Rockaways.

The sources said police recently learned from informants that gang members and other troublemakers talked about throwing bombs at police officers or placing them near patrol cars.

?It?s not terrorism,? one source said. ?It?s (criminals). The alert is being issued out of precaution.?

A second source said police are trying to determine if the plot is tied to any recent police activity ? such as a major arrest or initiative ? or if someone heard about it on the Internet and spread the word.

?Does it matter?? the source said. ?Whatever the reason is, these things are dangerous.?

The source also said anyone arrested in the Rockaways is being pressed for anything they may have heard about cops being targeted.

By late Thursday, no officers in the Rockaways or elsewhere had been injured, nor had any such devices been found.

Drano bombs, which actually can be made with any drain or toilet cleaner that contains hydrochloric acid, can cause chemical burns to the skin or even blindness.

Someone handling a Drano bomb can even lose a finger, or worse, if they pick up the bottle ? which typically is plastic ? and shake it just a little.

Within seconds, the bottle builds up enough pressure to explode.

In 2010, such devices were set off near a Washington Heights school several times on a weekend in July.

A year earlier, the bomb squad safely detonated a Drano bomb that was found on a street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

No one was injured.

THIS THREAT IS STILL RELEVANT..........Evil Ones are putting Drano, tin foil, and a little water in plastic drink bottles and capping it up - leaving it on lawns, in mail boxes, in gardens, on driveways, etc., just waiting for you to pick it up, intending to put it in the rubbish, but you'll never make it!!!

If the bottle is picked up, and the bottle is shaken even just a little - in about 30 seconds or less, it builds up enough gas which then explodes with enough force to remove some your extremities. The liquid that comes out is boiling hot, as well.

Don't pick up any plastic bottles that may be laying in your yards or in the gutter, etc.

Pay attention to this. A plastic bottle with a cap. A little Drano. A little water.  A small piece of foil.  Disturb it by moving it, and BOOM!!

No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.
