For many of us who live outside the range of the FDNY Radio and FDNY/EMS Radio, we depend on the computers online service. Without that, many of us would never be able to pick that up no matter what type of radio or antenna set up we have. Recently many of us who monitor the workings of the FDNY and Citywide EMS on line found that there was a problem and everything was off. We were not able to listen to the FDNY. Why ?
In order for a radio message to be broadcasted on line, somebody must set that up. It requires a radio, I believe for each channel. I'm sure it requires a large expense and a lot of work. Perhaps many of us on this site are not aware, but site owner "TBendick" not only provides us this site, but also the online radio broadcast for the FDNY etc.
I was at his home several months ago. I saw the huge investment that apparently went into this, so guys like myself could click a mouse and hear the FDNY miles away. For years I wasn't able to pick up the FDNY no matter what I spent on radios or outside antenna towers and the expensive special cut antennas. But now I can, actually we can hear it loud and clear.
The other day there was a power failure so that online broadcast could not be sent. Recently I got to see the set up that this site owner has invested his time and money in for us. I took a photo and I'm hoping that one of our members that I sent it to will post it. (I need a young person figure that out). It's the radio set up in his garage, and not only did he have the expense for the radios, but I believe he has had to add security cameras and an alarm due to the expensive equipment he maintains.
Thanks Tommy B for all you've done. I know alot of us appreciate it. And in my own personnel case, because of the work you do, I've met some great people who have the same interest in the FDNY, I get to keep up with what the latest news is, or what was the FDNY news 30-40 years ago, and I also get to listen to the busiest and one of the best fire depts in the world because of what you do.
From an ole' retired Brother from Connecticut to a newly appointed fire Lt for the FDNY, I appreciate what you do. And I think a few others also appreciate what you do.
