For those not on Facebook Ex Rescue 1 FF Paul Hashagen has Officially Retired from ALL Firefighting duty after 40years (Hes was still active with Freeport Fire Dept). Below is the follwoing from his Facebook Page....

"Well It's Official:
I told the brothers at the firehouse last night that I am retiring from active firefighting after 40 years. (Your body lets you know when its time to go) Two weeks ago I was explaining my plans to Captain Peralta (one of my favorite people) when an alarm came in. I got to tiller the hook and ladder to a ripping house fire on West Seaman Avenue. So my last alarm was a WORKER! As it happens, when I retired from the FDNY it was filmed, luckily for me my last Freeport job was also captured by Fred Kopf (thanks Fred!)
I've been running out the door since 1976, its time to put my feet up and read a book! Stay safe out there!" ~End Quote

Happy retirement, Paul. Good luck and God bless.

During his career, Paul was a fireman in 74 Engine, 25 Truck, Rescue 1, and Freeport Truck 1.

Congratulations and good health to Paul. Just finished Rescue 1; 100 Years of Valor, authored by him.  My favorite Christmas gift this year. FYI Chief JK is mentioned in the text.  Hopefully he will have the time to write some more.

A good friend of mine, now a Battalion Chief, was first introduced into the FDNY by Paul Hashagen. At the time my young buddy just knocked on the door and introduced himself. Paul Hashagen answered the door and invited him in.

The guys took him on a run with them and of course, like most of us, "he got hooked". FDNY Firefighter Paul Hashagen made a significant impact on this young guys life. I guess he was about 17 years old at the time. Today he is a very well respected Battalion Chief in Connecticut. And it all started with Firefighter Hashagen spending a little time with him and answering his basic questions.
