On this web site, in the "Books on the War Years" thread - "History Section", we recently learned of a new edition of the book "Firehouse", originally released in 1977 by the late Jill Freeman, photographer and writer who described her days visiting with members of the FDNY during the very busy "FDNY WAR YEARS".
Here is the original video where she talks about those firefighters back then.
A time when a girl could not become a firefighter.
But even back then, Jill Freeman, who the members of the FDNY had the highest respect for, "served her purpose well without ever becoming a firefighter".
Here is that video.
