No Manhattan companies respond on the first alarm. Although technically a Manhattan box, Queens units handle it. My prognostication for the first alarm is: (Let's see how close I get)
260, 262, 258, 312      116, 115, 117F  45, 49,  Sq.288, R4, D14

At one time all of Welfare Island, now Roosevelt Island was under one box=Manhattan Box 920 and everything was a class 3.

I believe the 2nd alarm assignment for Roosevelt Island has Manhattan companies assigned.

I'm assuming E292 would be ahead of E312 for now.
Before the Barb changed things, they did have more Manhattan companies responding.



The main way onto Roosevelt Island is over the bridge from Queens. There is no fire protection on the Island itself.  Most people think there is cause of the SOC base of Operations there.  E260 and L116 are companies that do not relocate cause of this and if they will be unavailable for 30 min or more companies will be relocated there.

When they work on the bridge,  usually an Engine, Ladder and Battalion get relocated to sit on the island while the work or testing is being done. After that, any more resources would have to take the subway to back them up in case of a fire.
 
Went to proby school on (then) Welfare Island.  Lived in Astoria so the trip past St. Rita's to the 36th Avenue bridge was a piece of cake. Many of us will remember the fateful ( Manhattan) box 920...where companies were special called to the Rock for evaluation.  The bells would chime at 0900 hrs...and guys would cringe at the dreaded 7-920-11 or 5-920-28.  For one of our esteemed members it would look like 7-66-920-108.  And the fun would begin.
 
  There used to be direct access to Welfare  Island via the Queensboro Bridge by an elevator at mid-span. Only pumpers could fit, no aerials. The old 1938-39 Ahrens-Fox pumpers did not fit so the Shops had the the rear steps of some modified with a fold-up hinge so they could fit. ;)
 
For the elevator the front bumper of some ENGs had to be unbolted.....when MSU was still on the island they had a CD Pumper that 2 MSU FFs would respond with to Alarms in addition to the other Units........... 66-7-920-108
