Fireman Daly was put on light duty after recovering from second and third degree burns he received while operating at a fire on October 1, 1954. While on light duty he suffered a heart attack and died June 12, 1955.
Fireman John J. Daly (2) of Engine 70 received second and third degree burns on his hands and face [on October 1, 1954]. The verbal alarm, given in quarters by a citizen, was for a burning tar pot at City Island Avenue and Cross Street. Fireman Daly was taken to Fordham Hospital by public ambulance. He never returned to active duty and was assigned to light duty in the Bronx Communication Office. He suffered a heart attack and was taken to Bellevue Hospital were he died on June 12, 1955.
