July 4th has always been not only a day of celebration, but also a day when fires and emergencies are out-of-control. More fires are reported on July 4 than any other day of the year and 50 percent of those are caused by fireworks, per the NFPA.*

This thread is dedicated to firefighters in these videos and discussions who lost their lives in the Line of Duty September 11, 2001.

It is also dedicated to all firefighters, EMTs and LEOs who have served, and will serve, on July 4th holidays and every day, selflessly protecting others.

Providence, RI 4th of July fires from the 1980's

During the 1970's the City of Providence Fire Department was very busy during the 4th of July holiday and it continued thru the mid 1980's. All of these photos were taken from 1980-1985 over the holiday. Fires were mostly in vacant buildings in the areas of Broad St in South Providence or the West End in Engine 8 and Ladder 2's 1st due district. Often the city received mutual aid task forces to assist in battling the fires.
