On July 17, 1920, Fireman Wilson gave his life in the performance of his duty. The company was responding to a telephone pole on fire at Irving and Putman Avenues. While mounting the rig in front of quarters, Wilson slipped and fell under the rear wheels of the apparatus. The weight of the fire truck crushed his leg and he received internal injuries. He was taken to Wyckoff Hospital were his right leg was amputated. He died of his injuries at 11:15 that night. Fireman Wilson was 32 years old and left a widow.
