A large outdoor fire at a fencing company in the Cincinnati suburb of Golf Manor sent one firefighter to the hospital with reported minor injuries. Firefighters from multiple suburban departments responded to the fire. Cincinnati Fire Department was also dispatched after a caller reported a large plume of smoke from a nearby city sports complex.

Confirmed crews on scene:
Deer Park/Silverton Quint 89, Norwood Engine 82, Reading Engine 83, St. Bernard Engine 91, Lockland Engine 59, Norwood Medic 82, District 89
Cincinnati: Engine 8, Engine 2, Engine 9, Engine 31, Engine 37 with Foam 37 (s/c), Ladder 2, Ladder 31, Ladder 32, Heavy Rescue 9, Medic 2, Medic 46, Medic 23 (s/c), ALS 32, District 4, District 3

Now on a personal rant. One thing that bugs me about this incident is how politics gets in the way of protection. Just two blocks from the scene is a the Golf Manor fire station which was closed and the department disbanded in 2022. Technically the first due on emergencies in Golf Manor is the Deer Park/Silverton Joint Fire District located on the map below near the words "Deer Park" in the upper right side of the picture. This being a reported structure fire automatic aid comes from other suburban departments including Norwood (bottom of the map), and others that are not pictured below. Normally Cincinnati would not respond unless specially requested, but in this case one call put the possible location of the fire as being in Cincinnati. The first three Cincinnati engines came from Pleasant Ridge, Carthage, and Paddock Hills (on the map below) the fourth came from Oakley, just below where you see the Google logo at the bottom. This creates for longer response times, especially if the closest engine is busy. Fire departments plan according to which station is the closest, but rarely if ever consider which is second or third closest. Maybe we should just give the fire departments, police departments, schools, public libraries, and public transit systems the money they need and let's have an election to vote on whether we should increase taxes to give our elected officials a raise.
