So it appears in the last 6 months or so major changes in the alarm assignments have totally eliminated the traditional methods of response.

At this incident, 12 engines and 11 trucks (or did I lose count?) on a second alarm. Relocators, who used to be untouchable, are now routed into an incident before they even get to the intended quarters.

These changes may be the most significant in well over a century of FDNY operations. I'm not saying they are good or bad. Putting out the fires while protecting the firefighters is good to go for me. In the Army we had a phrase, "Mission First, Soldiers Always'".

The term rekindle is accepted in the field of fire investigation (see inter-fire). I remember seeing teleprinter response tickets back in the 1980's stating Sig 5 - E200... respond to the scene of the previous 55-0000 - Rekindle.
