All lanes on MMMBT closed due to possible vehicle in the water

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) all lanes on the bridge tunnel were closed due to a multi-vehicle crash.

A spokesperson for Virginia State Police (VSP) said one vehicle is "possibly in the water" and a search is ongoing.

I was on that bridge last week and was surprised how low the barrier walls are.

The Newport News FD responded to a report of a multi-vehicle accident on the MMBT, where one vehicle had gone off the bridge and into the water. With the help of various jurisdictions and agencies, NNFD members were able to dive down to the submerged vehicle and prepare it for retrieval by attaching it to a tow truck on the bridge.
