General Joe Engle passed away last week in Houston at age 91.
A test pilot and astronaut, he was the last surviving X-15 pilot and the only astronaut to pilot both the X-15 and the Space Shuttle. He was also the only person to hand fly the Space shuttle from Mach 25 to full stop on the runway.
After retiring from the Air Force, Joe joined the Air National Guard and served as assistant to the Commander in Chief of US Space Command and NORAD. In addition, he spent 25 years on the NASA International Space Station Advisory Committee.
