In 1937, My Mom's Dad was killed in a Coal Mining Accident in
PA Coal Country near Mt. Carmel, PA.

Grandma got a Substantial Settlement from the Coal Co.,
Bought a Brownstone & Moved to Rutland Rd. x, Bedford & Rogers.
She grew up there, Around da' Corner from 249/113, and 8 Blocks from
Ebbett's Field, which at the time, was Home to The Brooklyn Dodgers.
(now Ebbett's Field Housing).

She spoke of leisurely Summer Afternoons walking over to a Dodger Game,
occasionally stopping-by to say Hi to the Fella's at 249/113.
.
Walter O'Malley [*!*] eventually Moved the Dodgers to L.A.[!*]
& NYC later built the Housing Project there.
By then Mom & Family Moved-on & Out (Grandma wound-up in a rather nice
5th Ave. NYC Apt.), Mom met & Married my Dad & they lived for Yr.s in a house on E.36 St.
& Kings Hwy.

My ancestors were "down the road apiece" in Mahanoy City back in the day. All coal miners. Grandpa was the first to come to the "Big City."

Yep, the whole area around me was based on coal back in the day. My grandfather started as a breaker boy after her arrived from Lithuania.

Incidents revolving around coal companies in the area are actually not out of the norm. There are still a lot of operating coal companies in Southern Luzerne County and throughout Schuylkill and Carbon Counties.
